Tip of the Month:

Knitters Vocabulary

I never cease to amaze myself. Having recently joined front and back of a cardigan together with right sides facing I was quite surprised to put it right side out and find the right front attached to the left shoulder. Which begs the question, what is the RIGHT SIDE?

The right side (RS) of the garment is the public side. The right side of a cardigan front is the right side as it is worn (closest to your right arm).

Your cast on method guides you. With the long tail cast on, the cast on is considered the first round, so if your pattern is stockinette (knit one row, purl one row) your next row would be purl, the tail ends upon the left when working a RS row. With an e-wrap cast on, the first round you knit would be a RS row, with the tail appearing one the left as the RS faces you. A knit on cast on first round would also be a RS row.
